Italian Adjectives to Describe Cities

Today I want to teach you to describe your hometown or we can say places in general by using Italian adjectives

Remember that the adjectives need to match gender and number! Some might be easy because you can use the rule O when it’s masculine and A when it’s feminine… but you can have exceptions!  

Adjectives:

NOIOSO - be super carful here! This is a false friend! Noioso means boring! Your brain might trick you here and want you to say Noisy… but be very careful! 

• è un posto noioso. 

  It’a a boring place… 

INTERESSANTE- interesting. 

• Il parco della mia città è interessante e pieno di fiori e piante 

 My city's park is interesting, it's full of flowers and plant.

CAOTICO - this one easily translates to chaotic. So think of a busy downtown with lots of shops and people moving around:

• E' una città caotica. (It's a chaotic city). I matched the adjective with città: città is feminine so you will say CAOTICA. 

RILASSANTE - relaxing

If on the other hand you live in a relaxing place you can use the word RILASSANTE - relaxing. 

• Vivere vicino al lago è rilassante.

 (Living by the lake is relaxing)

RUMOROSO - noisy

• vivo vicino alla stazione dei treni, una zona troppo rumorosa

 (I live near the train station, a very noisy area) 

SILENZIOSO - silent

The opposite of rumoroso is SILENZIOSO.

• La zona vicino al bosco è una zona silenziosa.

 (The area by the woods is a silent place).

ECONOMICO - economic. So you can live in a place where life is not too expensive:

• Vivere in campagna è economico. 

 (Living in the countryside is not expensive)

COSTOSO - expensive

• Vivere in centro a Milano è molto costoso!

 (Living downtown in Milan is expensive!)

 Here are some extra adjectives, I encourage you to write your own sentence just like I did in the examples above….

• STRESSANTE - stressful
• AFFOLLATO - crowded 
• STANCANTE - tiring 
• SANO - healthy 
• GRANDE - big 
• PICCOLO - small 
• PIACEVOLE - enjoyable
• ISOLATO - isolated
• TRAFFICATO - with traffic
• SPERDUTO - lost in the middle of nowhere

"Gallarate è una città interessante. Ha dei parchi grandi pieni di piante, fiori e anche scoiattoli dove si possono fare delle passeggiate rilassanti. Alcune zone sono rumorose, specialmente quelle vicine alla stazione dei treni o quelle vicino alle scuole. Il centro è piccolo ed è isolato dal traffico. Durante la settimana la città è abbastanza silenziosa ma durante il fine settimana in centro può diventare affollato con tante persone che fanno acquisti oppure si godono un aperitivo. Gallarate non è una città stressante ne sperduta ma una città piacevole!"
